Classic Boxer Short
Sunspel introduced the boxer short to Britain in 1947, with the aim of creating something lighter and more comfortable.
The design features Sunspel’s distinctive back panel to avoid a central seam, along with smoothed, double-turned seams for comfort. Cut from super-fine, long-staple cotton, it is breathable and soft against the skin. Sunspel’s boxer short became widely recognised after appearing in Levi’s iconic 1985 advertising campaign and is still made to the same principles today.

Why the Sunspel Classic Boxer Short is different
In 1947, Sunspel brought the boxer short to Britain from America. Drawing on its experience in making exceptionally comfortable underwear, Sunspel improved the original design, using finer cotton and carefully considered construction to create a lighter, softer garment. The essential design has changed very little since.
The Sunspel boxer short became famous in 1985 through a Levi's television advertisement in which Nick Kamen walked into a launderette and removed his jeans, revealing a pair of white Sunspel boxer shorts, to the sound of Marvin Gaye's I Heard It Through the Grapevine. The advertisement became one of the most memorable of the decade, bringing Sunspel to a much wider audience and helping establish the boxer short as a fashion staple.
The Sunspel Classic Boxer Short retains the original relaxed fit and proportions. For a longer leg, choose the Long Cut Boxer Short, or for an even finer, softer cotton, explore the Sea Island Cotton Boxer Short.
